Retired but less than 65
A member who retires after attaining age 55 and with at least three consecutive years of membership in WELS VEBA may continue coverage as a retired member until he or she attains age 65. Dependents covered under the Plan when the member retires may also continue their coverage. A member or spouse may not enroll for Medicare Advantage benefits through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield until they reach age 65.
Retired and 65 or over
A member who retires after attaining age 65 and with at least three consecutive years of membership in WELS VEBA may be eligible for Medicare Advantage benefits through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. Spouses who were covered at the time of the member's retirement and are less than age 65 may continue full coverage under WELS VEBA until they reach age 65. When the spouse reaches age 65, the spouse may be eligible for Medicare Advantage benefits through Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. Dependent children who were covered under WELS VEBA at the time of the member's retirement and are not totally disabled may continue their coverage under WELS VEBA as long as they are an unmarried, full-time student and less than age 26. Dependent children who lose their dependent eligibility status according to the eligibility rules of WELS VEBA may be eligible to continue their coverage through COBRA.

Over 65 and an active worker
An individual who is over 65 but meets the eligibility rules of WELS VEBA listed on the eligibility page may continue full coverage under WELS VEBA until the worker retires. WELS VEBA will provide primary coverage and Medicare will provide secondary coverage.
