The Long Term Disability (LTD) benefits are provided under WELS VEBA. LTD provides benefits to eligible workers who, due to sickness or injury, are unable to perform the duties for which they have been called or hired. In the event of disability, the individual will receive a benefit that replaces 66.67% of pre-disability compensation (including base salary and housing and utilities allowances, if any). LTD coverage is provided for workers who are covered for health benefits under WELS VEBA, at no additional cost. Dependents, including a worker who is a dependent, do not have LTD coverage under WELS VEBA.
Workers who are eligible but not enrolled for health benefits under WELS VEBA may purchase the same LTD benefit.
The LTD benefit is fully insured and is administered by the Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada ("Sun Life").
